The Challenge

Like any other sports competition, it’s essential to generate audience attention year-round beyond the seasonality. Up until now, the ACL has been using Vimeo OTT to stream its championships and manage VOD libraries. They have been faced with a few limitations - customization, usability, formats conversion, and analytics – that, together with a higher pricing range, contributed to the choice of looking for another OTT solution on the market. They also needed a system that would make it easy to launch a profitable subscription model directly integrated within their website.



The Solution

The ACL chose Vizzi OTT-TV Platform because it provided the full suite of services required to deliver a first-class user experience with expert support at a competitive price. They particularly valued the turnkey nature of the live-streaming solution, but also the capability to easily create VOD libraries designed to keep engagement rates beyond the Live League sessions, and the flexibility to add specific customizations that would improve their audience’s engagement, like a multi-cam dashboard.


Vizzi’s white-label template allowed the editorial team to fully customize the platform with ACL’s colors and branding while also giving the flexibility to configure collections, content highlights, thumbnails, and metadata, directly from the CMS.


Additionally, MOG ensured a broadcast-quality video experience to The ACL’s audience during their Live Championship by automatically transcoding four live RTMP feeds to HLS, being transmitted from Newtek’s TriCaster onsite. Vizzi’s acquisition system ensure the transcoding in multiple resolutions with adaptative bitrates, which guaranteed an optimal viewing experience, regardless of the viewers bandwidth.

In a nutshell, ACL’s OTT Platform consisted on:

  • The automatic ingest of VOD contents to The ACL’s OTT platform;
  • The acquisition and transcoding of four live RTMP live feeds from a secure and self-configured CDN to HLS formats;
  • The direct integration of ACL’s OTT platform to their website through a login portal, so they could manage subscriptions;
  • • The customization of a multi-cam dashboard with four synchronized players, designed to provide viewers with an immersive experience of the championships;
  • The support of multiple devices and operating systems, including Microsoft, iOS, Android, as well as all major apps and set-top -boxes (Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku);
  • The Live feed transfer to Vizzi web platform through a secure and reliable CDN;
  • The gathering of consumer data analytics, such as the number of stream views, traffic consumption, page visits, and audience demographics.
